I’m a lover of history and a historian of early America.
I have a strong interest in the social and cultural history of the revolutionary and early republic periods. My current research investigates the creation of the American union and the ratification of the Articles of Confederation.
I hold a Ph.D. in history from the University of California, Davis. I’m an elected fellow of the Massachusetts Historical History and elected member of the Colonial Society of Massachusetts. My work in history and podcasting has won awards including the Academy of Podcasters Best History Podcast Award (2017), the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution Inaugural Franklin New Media Award (2022), and the Pennsylvania State University History Department’s Distinguished Alumni Award (2022).
Why a Podcast?
I seek to connect people with history so they better understand who they are and how they came to be who they are.
I started Ben Franklin’s World to connect you with the work of professional historians so you can better understand the people and events that have impacted and shaped our present-day world and meet the people who produce the histories we love to read, listen to, and watch. With each interview, I try to take you behind the scenes of how historians know what they know about the past so you can better understand how we know what we know about history.
