Ben Franklin’s World has been fortunate to collaborate with field-leading institutions dedicated to historical scholarship and public history. The support and expertise of these organizations have played a vital role in shaping the podcast and ensuring its continued success.
The Omohundro Institute (2016-2023)
From 2016 to 2017, Ben Franklin’s World partnered with the Omohundro Institute of Early American History & Culture (OI) at William & Mary to produce the Doing History series. This series explored the ways historians research, interpret, and present the past to the public.
In May 2017, Ben Franklin’s World became a full production of the Omohundro Institute when Liz Covart joined the organization as its Digital Projects Editor. From May 2017 through December 2023, the OI provided scholarly and financial support that allowed the podcast to grow in scope and reach new audiences. Working with the Omohundro Institute provided Liz with invaluable experience working in and with nonprofit history organizations.
Colonial Williamsburg Foundation (2023-2025)
In January 2023, Ben Franklin’s World moved to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, where it became a production of Colonial Williamsburg Innovation Studios. During this time, Liz Covart served as the Founding Director of Colonial Williamsburg Innovation Studios, overseeing the Foundation’s digital content production and the podcast’s production from January 2023 to February 2025.
Colonial Williamsburg’s support enabled Ben Franklin’s World to expand its reach while continuing to deliver high-quality historical content to listeners worldwide. The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation’s commitment to public history and historical storytelling has been instrumental in the podcast’s continued growth and evolution. Liz’s work leading the Colonial Williamsburg Innovation Studios team also provided invaluable experience in nonprofit management and working across a large nonprofit organization.
